This chart tracks vacancies, open seats and potentially open seats in the House.
The list of potential open seats includes several dozen House members reportedly weighing bids for higher office. Fifteen governors are term-limited next year and at least three senators won’t run for reelection in 2026, opening up rare opportunities for ambitious House members. This list also includes the House’s growing class of octogenarians.
The vast majority of these seats are not competitive and will almost certainly be decided in the primary. But a handful of competitive districts could open up, boosting the opposing party’s odds of flipping the seat.
