
Both parties have their fair share of contentious primaries in the Commonwealth on June 18.
In the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, 5th District Republican Rep. Bob Good faces the combined wrath of former President Trump and former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who are backing GOP state Sen. John McGuire in the primary contest.
Meanwhile, a crowd of Virginia Democrats are running to succeed outgoing Reps. Abigail Spanberger and Jennifer Wexton in their northern Virginia districts. Whoever wins the Democratic primary in the 10th District should be the heavy favorite in November. Democrats have the edge in the 7th District too, but Republicans have a better shot at flipping that seat. Which Republican wins the competitive primary in the 7th might determine how much Republican outside groups invest in that district.
And in Virginia Beach’s 2nd District, retired U.S. Naval officer Missy Cotter Smasal should win the Democratic primary to take on freshman GOP Rep. Jen Kiggans.
