
In some ways, the race for the White House has returned to where it stood before President Joe Biden’s catastrophic debate performance in late June.
Just a couple of weeks ago, the Trump campaign could not only boast of leads in every key battleground state, but they were also making inroads into deep blue states like Minnesota, New Mexico and Virginia.
Today, however, the map looks like it has returned to its “normal size,” as Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents who were lukewarm or cold to Biden come home to Vice President Kamala Harris.
Polling taken this week in Trump “reach states” like Maine, New Hampshire and Minnesota finds Harris significantly outrunning Biden. For example, a University of New Hampshire poll taken June 28-29 found Biden leading Trump by just two points in a state he carried by seven points. A UNH survey out this week showed Harris up by seven points. In Minnesota, where the 538 average had Biden and Trump tied as of July 21, Harris leads Trump by anywhere from six to 10 points.
