
A slew of “First 100 Days” polling found President Donald Trump and his economic policies to be broadly unpopular. Trump’s decision to forge ahead with a risky and unprecedented tariff fight has produced significant anxiety among the electorate. The question is whether he can turn things around before these anxieties morph into anger and potentially lead to disastrous consequences for the GOP next year.
To be sure, the 100-day marker is an arbitrary date. The polling out this week is not predictive of how voters will feel 100 days from now, and surely not how voters will view the president or his party 10 months from now when the midterms will start in earnest. But the survey data provides us some insight into the expectations and worries of the electorate.
