Highlights from last night's primaries in Maryland, West Virginia and Nebraska:
- Angela Alsobrooks easily won the Democratic nomination for the Maryland Senate race. Larry Hogan starts the race with high favorable ratings, but a nationalized race favors Alsobrooks.
- In West Virginia, Republican Attorney General Patrick Morrisey defeated the sons of Rep. Carol Miller and Sen. Shelley Moore Capito for the GOP nomination for governor.
- Republican Reps. Carol Miller (WV-01) and Don Bacon (NE-02) easily defeated their primary opponents.
The Maryland Democratic Senate primary proved that money isn’t everything. Despite putting in more than $62 million of his own money, Rep. David Trone is on pace to handily lose the nomination to Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks. With 63% of the total vote accounted for, Alsobrooks leads Trone by 12 points — 54% to 42%. According to data from AdImpact, the Total Wine & More founder outspent Alsobrooks and her allies on the pricey Washington and Baltimore media markets by a more than seven-to-one margin, $48 million to $6.8 million.
