
Last week, we took a lengthy deep dive into the curious Nebraska Senate race, where Republican Sen. Deb Fischer is being challenged by Independent union leader Dan Osborn.
As we wrote then, polls from mostly Democratic firms had shown a closer-than-expected contest, and we were starting to hear some alarm from GOP sources that Fischer wasn’t taking the unique challenge from Osborn seriously enough.
However, the two-term senator recently began spending, along with a GOP super PAC that has been assailing Osborn as a closet Democrat. The main outside group backing Osborn, Retire Career Politicians, is backed by the Democratic dark money group Sixteen Thirty Fund.
We also noted last week that we would reassess our rating once new polling came out now that both sides are on the air. We got that today with a poll from SurveyUSA — and though the poll was contracted by Osborn’s campaign, SurveyUSA is a non-partisan pollster which previously surveyed the race for the election analysis site Split Ticket.
