After a nine-day pause, The Cook Political Report with Amy Walter is pleased to relaunch our national polling average.
Over the next four months, we’ll publish our topline averages for the following subgroups of voters: men, women, white college graduates, white non-college graduates, Black voters, Hispanic/Latino voters, 18-to-29-year-olds, 65+ voters, Democrats, Republicans and independents. Subgroup findings often vary widely across polls owing to small sample sizes. For example, a live-interview survey of 800 likely voters may only survey 100 Black voters or even fewer 18-to-29-year-olds, producing “noisy” results that might fluctuate wildly with little real-world explanation from month to month. But our crosstab averages attempt to reduce this noise by aggregating and averaging subgroup results across a broad range of surveys.
