RACE ANALYSIS
The Bottom Line
Updated: Jun 9, 2020
Ten Republicans filed for the August 18 primary to replace retiring Rep. Ted Yoho and there's no clear frontrunner. So far, serious contenders include former Yoho aide Kat Cammack, Clay County Commissioner Gavin Rollins, former Sen. Connie Mack aide Judson Sapp, physician James St. George, retired Navy pilot Todd Chase and marketing consultant Ryan Chamberlin.
Rollins, who served in a counterterrorism role in South Sudan with the Army National Guard, has the support of Yoho's son and may have a geographic edge as an elected official from the most populous GOP county in the district. But Sapp and St. George had self-funded more than $200,000 by March. The race looks wide open and with no runoff, the victor could win with less than a quarter of the vote.
