Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Md., 1995; physician; United States Navy
Reserve, 1988-2010; member of the Maryland state senate, 1998-2010, minority
whip; unsuccessful candidate for election to the One Hundred Eleventh Congress
in 2008; elected as a Republican to the One Hundred Twelfth and to the three
succeeding Congresses (January 3, 2011-present).
