RACE ANALYSIS
The Bottom Line
Updated: Aug 30, 2019
CT-05: Jahana Hayes (D) - Northwest: Danbury, Waterbury, New Britain
Solid Democratic. If there's any district in the state that's still competitive, it's probably this one, which voted for Hillary Clinton by just four points in 2016. But even when incumbent Democrat Elizabeth Esty imploded in April 2018 after admitting she failed to promptly fire an abusive chief of staff, Republicans whiffed. Hayes, the 2016 National Teacher of the Year, won the primary and general elections by double digits and is a rising Democratic star.
