The race is now on for primary winners Republican House Speaker John Gard and Democratic physician Steve Kagen, to define themselves and the contest before their opponent does.

Arizona-8:

Unlike the Rhode Island Senate race, heavy investment by the national Republican party in Arizona was not enough to carry its preferred candidate, state Rep. Steve Huffman, through the primary. Former state Rep. Randy Graf, who took 43 percent of the vote in the 2004 primary against Rep. Jim Kolbe, won the five-way primary with 43 percent of the vote. His win puts this seat in serious jeopardy for the GOP.
