In 2010, Kansas held some of the most dramatic House races of the cycle, as three out of its four seats changed hands. But it hasn't been as exciting since. Kansas is now home to perhaps the least competitive House races in the country. The Kansas City 3rd CD, which Democrats held from 1998 to 2010, was redrawn to exclude liberal Lawrence and the University of Kansas, ensuring freshman GOP Rep. Kevin Yoder's reelection in 2012.Since Kansas lost its fifth seat in 1990, its story has mostly been the same: as the Kansas City suburbs of Johnson County have grown in population, the pint-sized 3rd District has needed to shrink. In 2012, even though Kansas Republicans held exclusive authority over redistricting, notorious intra-GOP legislative squabbling made Kansas the last state in the country to finalize its Congressional map. In fact, a district court stepped in and drew it on June 7, just two months ahead of the state's primary.
