House Editor David Wasserman writes: In 2010, Kansas held some of the most dramatic House races of the cycle, as three out of its four seats changed hands. And in 2012, even though Kansas Republicans held exclusive authority over redistricting, notorious intra-GOP legislative squabbling made Kansas the last state in the country to finalize its Congressional map. In fact, a district court stepped in and drew it on June 7, just two months ahead of the state's primary. Ironically, Kansas is now home to perhaps the least competitive House races in the country. The Kansas City 3rd CD, which Democrats held from 1998 to 2010, was redrawn to exclude liberal Lawrence and the University of Kansas, ensuring freshman GOP Rep. Kevin Yoder reelection.

New District Baselines

KS-01: Tim Huelskamp (R) – Central and west: Manhattan, Dodge City

Solid Republican. Taking in the western two thirds of the state (except for several southern counties that were appended to the Wichita 4th CD in redistricting), this is the most Republican district in the state.
