While most eyes in Washington were focused on whether there would be a government shutdown, an opinion piece in The Washington Post drew a bit of attention. Under the headline “Alarmed Republicans are preparing to draft Glenn Youngkin,” CBS News’s Robert Costa reported that a previously scheduled retreat for past and prospective donors to the Virginia governor is turning into an opportunity to entice him to run. For months, many GOP big hitters, including Fox mogul Rupert Murdoch, have turned their gaze toward Youngkin as they pine for a new horse to ride.

Costa's op-ed and a subsequent Post news piece examined the question of whether this last-minute entry was feasible. With some filing deadlines this month, a candidate entering this late would not make it onto the ballot in several states.
