WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 3, 2023) — The Cook Political Report is delighted to announce the promotion of David Wasserman to the position of Senior Editor & Elections Analyst. His elevation into senior leadership reflects David’s outstanding contributions to The Cook Political Report, and to the national understanding of US House elections and redistricting.

As Senior Editor & Elections Analyst, David will lead the development of key data visualizations and new product development, and will supervise and continue to contribute to CPR’s coverage of the US House of Representatives and redistricting developments for the upcoming 2024 cycle.

"I am thrilled to announce David’s promotion to Senior Editor," said Amy Walter, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of the Cook Political Report. "David's insightful analysis, rigorous reporting and profound understanding of the redistricting process is unmatched. We are excited for him to unleash his talents across all of CPR’s platforms.”

Since joining The Cook Political Report as House Editor in 2007, David’s thoughtful analysis of the factors shaping electoral outcomes, and his ability to translate his insights into visual reference tools, has provided an accessibility that has made him a trusted source amongst political enthusiasts, campaign strategists, and journalists alike.

David has been the lead author of the Cook Partisan Voting Index (Cook PVI) since 2009, developed the widely cited Popular Vote Tracker, and helped to build the 2021-2022 Redistricting Hub for the Cook Political Report website, which featured possible congressional district maps (hand drawn by David), for every state. In 2023, David led the release of the historical Cook PVI values for every set of congressional districts dating back to 1997.
