Last week we wrote that developer Kelly Doran's withdrawal from the Democratic Senate primary in Minnesota left Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar as the undisputed frontrunner for the nomination. Klobuchar's campaign got another boost yesterday when EMILY's List president Ellen Malcolm announced that the group would endorse her. The endorsement provides Klobuchar with access to a large pool of national donors interested in electing pro-choice Democratic women to office.

The group's endorsement is unusual because there is another woman, children's activist Patty Wetterling, in the race. And, EMILY's List had supported Wetterling in her 2004 bid in Minnesota's 6 th Congressional District against GOP Mark Kennedy, the party's presumptive Senate nominee. Over the last few months, EMILY's List has sent not-so-subtle signals that they would prefer that Wetterling take another shot at the 6 th CD, especially now that it's open, but Wetterling remains committed to the Senate contest.

Malcolm indicated that they made the decision to get behind Klobuchar because she has put together a strong statewide organization and has been a successful fundraiser. The group is also concerned
