Sometimes, money can buy love. Billionaire healthcare executive Rick Jackson spent nearly $100 million from his own pocket to win Georgia’s Republican gubernatorial primary, toppling Lt. Gov. Burt Jones — and, by proxy, President Donald Trump — 53%-47%. Jones, who had Trump’s early endorsement, began this race as a favorite but was taken by surprise when Jackson erupted onto the scene earlier this year. Jackson’s surge also wasn’t blunted when Gov. Brian Kemp somewhat puzzlingly endorsed Jones in the waning days of the campaign.Key Dates
