Race summary
Former Maine House Speaker Hannah Pingree is the favorite heading into the general election. Despite capturing less of the first-round ranked-choice vote than frontrunner Nirav Shah, who had 27%, Pingree won the crowded Democratic primary with 56% of the final tally. Pingree, who had the endorsement of her former boss Gov. Janet Mills, also got support from Mills’ onetime opponent, Democratic Senate nominee Graham Platner, who encouraged his supporters to rank her second behind his endorsed candidate, Troy Jackson. Pingree will now face Republican Bobby Charles, but the race is complicated by the presence of independent Matt Bennett.Key Dates
