Progressive challenger Jamie McLeod-Skinner defeated seven-term Blue Dog Rep. Kurt Schrader. Republicans nominated former Happy Valley (pop. 24,000) mayor Lori Chavez-DeRemer, who owns a chain of medical clinics with her husband. GOP strategists can't wait to portray McLeod-Skinner, a Medicare for All/Green New Deal backer, as too far left for this Biden +9 seat. But McLeod-Skinner has a grassroots army and will emphasize her wildfire recovery efforts as a city manager to build a rural populist appeal akin to Sen. Jon Tester's. It's a Toss Up.
2022 Oregon Redistricting
Oregon was the first state in the country to finalize a new congressional map. The map was a win for Democrats. Democrats passed a plan that's likely to award the state's new 6th CD to themselves for a 5D-1R breakdown overall, up from 4D-1R in 2021.
