Matthew Klein

As an analyst, Matthew Klein contributes nonpartisan coverage of U.S. House and gubernatorial elections. He also serves as the voice of The Cook Political Report’s X handle on election nights and helps oversee several of the site’s core features, including its race pages and the House Open Seats Chart.
Matthew served as an election night panelist for C-SPAN in 2025. He has made appearances on Bloomberg's "Balance of Power," KQED's "Political Breakdown" and NJ PBS. His insights have been featured in The Boston Globe, The Sacramento Bee and The Wall Street Journal, among various other publications.
Born and raised in Maryland, Matthew earned his B.A. in Political Science from Emory University, where he published an undergraduate honors thesis on political party realignment in West Virginia. He joined The Cook Political Report in March 2022 and previously served as a research associate (2022-2023) and staff writer (2023-2024). A film enthusiast and avid runner, Matthew currently resides in Washington, D.C.
