Hawaii: There is probably no state more difficult to poll than Hawaii. There are polls that show Democratic Gov. Neil Abercrombie in good shape as he prepares to run for a second term and others that show that he might be vulnerable, even in a primary. Abercrombie faces a primary challenge from state Sen. David Ige in August, but all indications are that this is an uphill battle for Ige, who doesn’t have the financial resources that the Governor does. Nevertheless, Abercrombie doesn’t appear to be taking any chances and has already started running television ads that focus on his accomplishments, particularly in education and services for the elderly. It is expected that former Republican Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona will seek a rematch with Abercrombie. Aiona was the GOP nominee in 2010 and lost the race, 40 percent to 58 percent, despite the fact that it was a good year for Republicans nationally. This year’s race is likely to have a complication.
