On May 24, there are primaries in Alabama, Arkansas, and Georgia, a special election in Minnesota, and runoff in Texas. Here are the races that we are watching.
Alabama AL-05: OPEN (Brooks) (R) - North: Huntsville Solid Republican. With GOP Rep. Mo Brooks firmly in the Senate race (even after Donald Trump un-endorsed him), the Republican primary for his open seat increasingly looks like a two-way contest between Madison County Commissioner Dale Strong, backed by the Alabama Farmers Federation, and former Trump Assistant Army Secretary/Huntsville schools superintendent Casey Wardynski, endorsed by the House Freedom Caucus. Strong has raised $846,000 to Wardynski's $515,000 and emphasizes his work as county commissioner on tornado recovery and building new roads. But he's also alienated activists on the right for voting to move a Confederate statue from atop the county courthouse in 2020. Wardynski has accused Gen. Mark Milley and others in the "deep state" of "usurping" Donald Trump. With four other Republicans on the ballot, a June 21 runoff is possible. Georgia GA-02: Sanford Bishop (D) - Southwest: Albany, Columbus, Macon Likely Democrat.
