Democrats got a bit of good news late last week when Bill Gluba, the 3rd place finisher in the June 6 Democratic primary, backed off his earlier threat to run as an independent candidate in November, and ultimately endorsed the winner of the Democratic primary, Bruce Braley. Gluba, who took 7,492 votes in the primary to 10,798 for Braley, said that his initial desire to run as an independent was driven not by his unhappiness with Braley but rather by his frustration over the treatment he received from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. The DCCC did not get involved in the primary, but Gluba felt that he was "treated unfairly" by the committee. Gluba is also still harboring frustration with the DCCC's lack of financial support for his 2004 contest against Rep. Jim Nussle. Nussle beat Gluba in 2004, 55 percent to 43 percent.
