In the 3rd District, freshman Democratic Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez is defending a highly-competitive seat that she flipped in one of the biggest upsets of 2022. As one of the five Democrats representing seats Trump won in 2020, she’s a top target for Republicans — though the GOP’s likely repeat nominee is one of the party’s most polarizing candidates.
Two institutionalists at opposite ends of the state, GOP Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) and Democratic Rep. Derek Kilmer (WA-06), are headed for the exits as dysfunction in the House reaches a boiling point. Both represent safe seats that will feature competitive primaries this August.
And GOP Rep. Dan Newhouse (WA-04), one of the 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Donald Trump in 2021 and one of just two who remain in the House, will face another competitive primary in his rural, Trump-supporting district.
