Although we are only three months into 2021, and control of the Senate was only just decided in January, political advertising for 2022 has already started. During the last month, we have seen a notable uptick in a variety of different categories. First, 2021 special House elections are underway in Louisiana, Texas, and New Mexico, while 2021 elections in New York City, New Jersey, and Virginia are heating up. All told, we have tracked just under $30m in political advertising already this month. There are far less political ads on air right now, so this messaging may go further than it would at busier times of the year with high ad volume.

2021 Special Elections

While the 2021 slate of special elections does not appear to have any races comparable to the 2017 GA-06 special election, there are many interesting dynamics at play in these races.
