The Georgia GOP Senate primary is officially in full swing, with University of Georgia football legend Herschel Walker off the sidelines and into the huddle after months of will-he-or-won't-he speculation. But many Peach State Republican insiders are skeptical he can convert his celebrity candidacy into a victory in 2022 over freshman Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock, with plenty of personal baggage already threatening to throw a flag on his nascent bid.

"I don't know a single significant GOP operative who thinks Walker will lose the primary. I don't know a single significant GOP operative who thinks Walker will win the general," influential conservative Georgia radio host and blogger Erick Erickson tweeted after Walker announced.

To be sure, Walker is the undisputed frontrunner for the Republican nomination, given his name ID and coveted endorsement from Donald Trump.
