On Tuesday, there is a trio of Senate primaries and runoffs in states that will be critical to the balance of power in the upper chamber — Alabama, Maine and Texas.

Alabama:

Alabama is Republicans’ best — and possibly only — pick-up opportunity in a growing Senate map that increasingly favors Democrats. We currently rate this seat held by Democratic Senator Doug Jones as Lean Republican. It looks like the probable GOP nominee with the advantage to defeat him will be former Auburn head football coach Tommy Tuberville, and not former Sen. Jeff Sessions, whose departure from this seat to become attorney general led to the December 2017 special election that Jones won in an upset.

Even though Sessions was the first senator to endorse President Trump in 2016, his decision to recuse himself from the Russia investigation in the first few months of the administration earned him Trump’s ire that has only intensified.
