House Editor David Wasserman writes: In 2010, Florida Democrats lost four House incumbents but thought they won a big consolation prize when voters approved two "Fair Districts Florida" ballot amendments designed to tie the GOP legislature's hands in redistricting. But Republicans artfully managed to smooth out Florida's mangled Congressional boundaries while preserving GOP advantages in all 19 of their current seats, and Democrats' efforts to challenge the map in time for this fall failed. Republicans now even have outside shots at picking up both the state's "new" seats, one near Orlando and the other near West Palm Beach. Democrats would probably need to gain four or five seats in Florida to have a shot at a House majority, but today they are on track to pick up just two or three.
